In Towards Heilprin Land, volcanic stories from the Smithsonian collide with polar encounters from a fragile landmass in the north. The nature of love is explained by a geoscientist; volcanologists talk about their long-term relationships with volcanoes from around the world and an eco-expedition aboard a ship to north east Greenland are described through a series of drawings, photographs, videos and text.
The production-based component of the project was commissioned by the Sharjah Biennial 8. The performative lecture Towards Heilprin Land was commissioned by Tiffin Projects and premiered at The Hunterian, Glasgow in 2006. It has been performed at a wide variety of venues since, including Transmediale08; PAC Murcia/Estratos curated by Nicolas Bourriaud and Elizabeth Foundation for the Arts, New York.
Work from Towards Heilprin Land has been shown in Still Life: Art, Ecology and the Politics of Change, Sharjah Biennial 8, Sharjah, U.A.E.; Conspire: transmediale.08 curated by Natasa Petresin-Bachalez at the House of World Culture, Berlin; Polar Dispatches curated by Sage Lewis at the Portland Museum of Art and toured extensively in Experimental Geography curated by Nato Thompson through Independent Curators International from 2008-11.
