The Consumption Huts

A doctor based on the most current developments, set up a Tuberculosis hospital in an area past Broadway and past the Methodist Church. There were 15 patients, no light except for the lanterns, no heat except for the blankets. In the cave, they all became more sick, skin translucent, circles under the eyes dark blue. Like the eye-less fish, an absence of color. The carcass of a deer was found near where one of the huts was said to stand. Initially, all the patients seemed to make progress, but this was due to the optimism of a whole new way to approach their convalescence. It was at this time that the doctor, so pleased by the progress of his patients, made plans to build a hotel farther into the depths of the cave so that visiting relations would have a place to stay.
